The Beatles were a British rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960and the musical group the most commercially successful andcritically acclaimed history of popular music. From 1962, the groupwas formed by John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney(bass and vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar and vocals) andRingo Starr (drums, vocals). Rooted in skiffle and rock and roll fromthe 1950s, the band later came to assume a variety of genresranging from folk rock to psychedelic rock, often incorporatingelements of classical music and others on innovative and creative ways. Its growing popularity, the British press called "Beatlemania",made them grow in sophistication. The Beatles came to beperceived as the embodiment of progressive ideals and his influence extended to the social and cultural revolutions of the1960s.
