Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is in the territory of the United States of America. Its valley was shaped by the Colorado River overthousands of years as its waters covered the bed, digging it overthe 446 km. Enough to be measured between 6 and 29 km wide and reaches depths of 1600 meters. About 2 billion years of geological history of Earth were exposed by the river, as it and itstributaries cut through layer after layer of sediment.
The Grand Canyon was first seen by a European in 1540, theSpaniard Garcia Lopez de Cardenas. The first scientific expedition to the canyon was led by Major John Wesley Powell in the late 1870s. Powell referred to the sedimentary rocks exposedin the canyon as "leaves a great story book. " However, the areawas inhabited by Native Americans who established villages alongthe gorge, as the Hopi.
It is considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world anda tourist spot visited by thousands of tourists annually, generatingrevenue for cities and coastal communities to the canyon.
