Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day, commonly abbreviated to Valentine's Day is anannual celebration held on February 14 celebrating the love andaffection between intimate partners.

The day is named after aChristian martyr or earlier called S. Valentine, and was established byPope Gelasius I in 496 AD.

Was excluded from the Roman calendar of saints in 1969 by PopePaul VI. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other, presenting flowers, offering confectionery products, and sending cards (known as "Valentine").

The first day became associated with romantic love in the circle ofGeoffrey Chaucer in High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

Valentine symbols include the modern heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten Valentine's Day have given way to mass-produced cards.
