May 9, Europe Day

The Europe day or day of the European Union is acommemorative day held annually in Europe (or the European Union on May 9. The chosen date reflects the day May 9, 1950 in which the French statesman Robert Schuman put forward theproposal of a supranational European entity. This proposalbecame known as the Schuman Declaration and is considered theforerunner of today's European Union.
Europe Day is with the flag, anthem, currency (United In Diversity)and the Euro symbol of a common European identity. Thecelebrations and activities of this day provides an opportunity toapproach the concept of European citizens of united Europe and the peoples of the Union together.
Several countries celebrate this date being the 9th international holiday for all European countries. In Portugal it is not.
